Description: This course will introduce you to Jane Austen through lessons that cover her five most well-known novels and several contemporary adaptations and treatments of those novels. We will explore the basic techniques used to understand Austen's work in its literary and historical contexts. We will also examine the basic formal techniques used to bring those works to life for contemporary viewers and readers. Finally, the course will posit questions about the nature of Austen's work and the ways in which adaptations have changed her work in order to make it conform to the standards of modern romance.
